the monologue

Image
The crux of my plan, the bane of my blogger existence, my kryptonite.... the ethiopian electric power. I almost didn't get to write  today, power only came on a few hours ago and might go out while i'm writing this. now to the main attraction... do we listen or do we wait. that is wait for the other party to finish just to say our peace. i believe and and have encountered in my personal dealings that oftentimes arguments and debates can be cut short by half if not had in the first place, if we only listen to what the other person is saying. this hard for me since there is always the element of competitiveness and i want to win the argument rather than convey my point of view and receive theirs. it's also easier preparing in your mind what you're going to say after they're done speaking or ruminating on what you should have said.not much for today i guess, maybe after im done with " why nations fail ", i'll start on "thus spoke zarathustra" or...

Perspective

Image
Source: sora Perspective, i think that's one thing that we all lack in life. It is, by definition, unavoidable. but the true problem lies in not actively seeking out other  or other's perspective on matters you concern yourself with. most of the time we wonder why people act the way they do, think the way they think, when we've never stopped to consider what its like on there side of the fence. for instance i've always wondered, until very recently, how it is the western world tolerates homosexuality, which ive always found unnatural(like icky).  But i only recently considered the social and educational factors that went into me believing the things i do, and looking back it makes sense, growing up in a highly religious country in which homosexuals are looked upon worse than murders and their existence is only one of a vague rumor of a night club here and a back alley room there, its been easy to paint them with all that is bad in society and not question it, since its ...

blog monetized

I'm starting to think this plan of mine is going to be untenable if i dont do a whole lot more reading. there's only so much i know, and that isnt a loot. ive come to realize a few things sin my life , that you should never tell people what to do or what not to do, beyond a certain age if they posses a functioning mental faculty they will know what to do, you just have to be there to set a good example. the other one i learned from my brother is to not explain, its a form of disease, its non productive and it doesnt actually get you to achieve anything. if you have a problem, ask for assistance or deal with it yourself if you're capable, but never complain. maybe for the sake of this blog, ill have to start reading, or re reading a whole lot more of the book i "finished" before. i started re reading "crime and punishment" and it didnt make much of a n impression on me the first time as i focused solely on the plot alone and not on the more intricate mess...

more fondly

I know i promised id write here everyday, but god damn. i wrote on my personal diary that i would use that as a more personal take and this would be more general, so lets philosophize. Fuuuuck, my mind is blank, i know i'll feel better after having finished, talk about writers block, i finally get it now. I feel like im avoiding something, like im writing in here to avoid doing what im supposed to, i know its not school, i gave up on that long ago. but  im not getting any younger, and i finally have to carry the burden of freedom , freedom an of choice and the results of those choices. oh why did we have  to be free, i guess maybe thats why we invented god, the universal invigilator, the master ,lord... we are subjects to an omniscient being who knows the past and the future. We have no free will, what we do is not up to us but as how he'd designed it, i tell you, theres definitely comfort in that. imagine wasting your life away and not even know it because you've convinced...

"the lottery"

Image
source: sora Almost wrote the day and tine on the title, as was my habit of doing when this was on my notebook. i dont know who im writing this for, i guess id like my life to be remembered in some way or another. I've been grappling with the fear of death lately.(thanatophobia more formally). i dont know where it came from all of the sudden, but its been recently compounded by the passing of my grandmas longtime neighbor and friend abebech, she passed away the day before last. she had a tumor growth on her brain, it was cancer i believe. id never seen a grown man cry in such a way before, it was disheartening. death is the ultimate perspective in my opinion, its the balance  by which we should weigh our decisions. I'm sitting on a stool next to the bed, its my turn on the side of the headpost today. just finished reading and then seeing Shirley Jackson's "the lottery" which the title of the story bears.it talks about mobs and how one forgets rationality and rea...
